Plant Person Profile
Meet Jordan Price: a Philadelphia-based, fitness-obsessed project manager, freelance writer, and Plant Person we love.
Tell us a little about yourself:
Hi there! My name is Jordan, I’m an exceedingly tall, incredibly outgoing writer, project manager, and lover of the world of wellness.
What are you reading right now?
Truthfully? I’m constantly reading about the developments in COVID Vaccines. I work in clinical research at a hospital that has supported several trials with some of these companies, and I’m so anxiously reading through the latest I haven’t touched a book since September!
What's your must-have Plant People product?
No doubt, it’s the Revive Serum. Ever since I started a few months ago, I’ve been getting compliments [on Zoom calls AND IRL!] about how I look like I’m glowing! During a time when I was kinda slacking off the skin care, I ordered a bottle and it’s been a love story ever since!
What's your relationship to the world of "wellness"/plant medicine?
After graduating college in 2009 with an extra 30lbs and a degree in psychology, I got into the world of clinical research and, shortly after, the world of group fitness and learning that there was more to life (and lunch) than free pizza from the student union and the drive-thru…
I joined my mom in a Weight Watchers challenge and nabbed a gym membership with my almost-expired student ID (shhh… don’t tell) and proceeded to lose 40lbs. Once I felt like I was in a healthy place, while I no longer felt like I was on a “weight loss journey”, I still wanted to learn more about wellness from the inside out and that’s when I started writing as “Food, Sweat, and Beers” @foodsweatnbeers.
In the past two years, I’ve tried to find a skin and self-care routine that works for me, and for some reason, all the lotions and potions I bought from the drug store weren’t doing much but causing more breakouts. I went to a largely plant-based skincare routine August 2018 and saw a dramatic improvement in clearer and brighter skin AND less breakouts.
What do you love about it?
I love not only knowing but being able to understand what the products I’m putting in and on my body are. There are ingredients I recognize, some that I can find in my community garden, and instead of reeking of chemicals all the time, I feel like the smells are botanical.
I also love that, for the capsules, if they get stuck in my throat I don’t feel like I’m gagging on poison - it’s natural ingredients and it goes down easy. The Drops + Sleep have given me much more restful evenings when my mind is typically racing - I can even tell in my sleep-tracker the nights when I’ve taken a dropper!
What needs to be changed?
I personally think we need to take shame out of the game. It took me over 30 years to realize the benefits of incorporating more plants into my lifestyle, both on the plate and in my medicine cabinet. That doesn’t make me any better or worse than someone who’s been vegan their entire lives but LIVES for a good chemical peel OR decides to add #meatlessmonday to their weeks when they turn 60. We are all in this together, and the wellness and plant-powered communities can all do a better job on inclusivity and welcoming others into the fold!
How does Plant People factor into your workout recovery routine?
For me, the biggest improvement has been the Drops + Sleep helping my mind ACTUALLY slow down at night time. Even on days when I’d work my body to the bone and feel so physically exhausted, it was like my brain was still on overdrive! This was resulting in feeling lousy the next day, and not being able to keep pushing. Now, I feel confident that if I know it’s going to be a “mind-racing” kind of evening, a dropperful will help me gain some calm and quiet in that noggin of mine!
What do you think sets Plant People apart?
Other than having the cutest branding around (I’ve given Plant People products as gifts before and hardly need to even wrap!), the company does a great job of making everything super easy and straightforward when it comes to actually USING. I don’t need to figure out what time of day based off my skin type and weight and height and astrological sign. They do a great job of helping me know what to use, when to use it, and what the benefits are.
Who are three people we should follow right now?
@bethereinfive - Kate Kennedy is a podcaster, pop-culture commentator, and does these long-form episode deep dives into everything from purity ring culture to Taylor Swift albums. It’s a great way to escape a bit of the doom and gloom that fills my TL and updates from the news, and she really feels like a friend after each episode [essential since I can’t see a lot of my friends in-person these days!]
@theskimm - If you’re anything like me, you MIGHT have spent more time doom-scrolling in the first few months of Spring 2020 than you ever have in your entire life. The Skimm has made understanding the news and helping sort through it all much easier, PLUS they’ll occasionally toss in some fun and humorous news stories to brighten my day!
Peter Attia, MD - I just started listening to his podcast - The Peter Attia Drive - and LOVE his relatable content about all things in the medical and healthcare world. Yes, I got hooked from an apisode breaking down the vaccine process, but I’ve been loving his content on running injuries, the war on cancer, and AI’s potential impact on patient care.
What's the future of "wellness"?
I think, whatever comes next, there’s going to be a focus on community. If 2020 has taught me anything, it’s the value of finding “your people” and holding onto them however you can. I’ve found new communities in recipe-sharing via Facebook, joining friends in virtual classes or through the Peloton app, or meeting new people via Instagram because we’ve attended pop-up workouts outside! These are the connections that have kept me going and prevented me from hibernating in my house with a bag of popcorn and a non-stop streaming of Netflix for the past 8 months.
What's your #1 must-do tip to feel whole, nourished, grounded?
It’s simple: sleep. My pre-sleep routine is a bit involved. There’s flossing and brushing, serum and sleep masks, white noise apps and dimmable lights. I’ve found that following my sleep routine makes me best equipped for literally ANYTHING that comes the next day. But on days when my sleep is out of whack, the impact can last DAYS!
