CBD 101: What is CBD?

CBD 101: What is CBD?

Three letters are very popular these days, C-B-D.

In fact, a recent report from cannabis industry analysts, the Brightfield Group, found that the U.S. market for CBD products grew by more than 80% these past twelve months, generating about $591 million, and is a market that could reach $20 billion by 2020. CBD is booming and will continue to gain momentum leading into the new year. However, if you’re still wondering what CBD is all about, we are here to help.

The breakdown - CBD 101

CBD (also known as Cannabidiol) is a natural compound found in cannabis. Cannabis contains 113 different cannabinoids; the most notable ones are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD. THC and CBD share a nearly exact formula, but one critical difference in their molecular structure gives each compound unique medicinal properties. For instance, unlike THC, CBD isn’t psychoactive and won’t make you high. Instead when ingested, CBD not only combats the psychoactive effects of THC, but also relieves pain, reduces inflammation and beyond.

To fully understand the benefits of CBD, you need to be aware of how cannabinoids interact with the human body. Two kinds of cell receptors in our bodies, called CB1 and CB2, comprise the Endocannabinoid system. These cell receptors are are found throughout important systems like the digestive tract, central nervous system, cardiovascular system and immune system and are only activated by cannabinoids. Therefore, the human body naturally produces cannabinoids, called Endocannabinoids, to interact with the CB1 and CB2 cell receptors in order to regulate basic functions like mood, appetite, pain and sleep.

This is why CBD works so well in the human body! When you’re taking some of our drops, you’re giving your body the medicine it loves and deserves. You’ll also be happier because of it. CBD slows down the breakdown of the endocannabinoid, Anandamide, the “bliss molecule.” Basically, anandamide tells your brain relax and be stress free.

Ultimately, CBD shouldn't scare you. This natural compound will make you feel better and has wonderful effects on your brain and body. To learn more about the perks of CBD, check out our blog post on the 5 Benefits and Uses of CBD Oil.
